Judges of the Family Division have jurisdiction over cases involving juvenile delinquents, abused and neglected children, adoptions , name changes , emancipations , and domestic relation matters. The General Trial Division of the Court provides for the resolution of disputes involving felony cases, civil cases where the amount in controversy exceeds $25,000, divorces, and family-related matters, appeals from Probate and District Courts, and the state agency appellate administrative decisions. Through the Pretrial Services Division, the Court provides flight and safety risk assessments for felony cases, monitors compliance with bond conditions and supervises defendants who are out on bond until they are sentenced. The Court appointing of counsel is coordinated and billings are received and revised by the Circuit Court. The Court also operates Alternative Dispute Resolution programs which provide trial alternatives in civil and domestic relations cases. The programs are successful in settling cases before trial and saving personnel and financial resources. The Family Division – Juvenile Unit of the Court is responsible for handling all cases of juvenile delinquency, child protection proceedings, traffic/appearance tickets, and Juvenile Personal Protection Orders . Two specialty courts exist within the Family Division. These include the Truancy Court and Family Recovery Court . The Family Division is comprised of four courtrooms (two of which are Probate) and the General Trial Division is comprised of five. Eight of the nine courtrooms are located in the Veterans Memorial Courthouse in Lansing, Michigan; the last courtroom is located in the County seat in Mason, Michigan. 341 S.
